Grown in Marlborough and matured for 15 to 18 months in French oak casks (one-third new), the 2000 vintage is a strapping (14.5 per cent alcohol), boldly coloured wine with 'a serious amount of fruit tannin'. Strongly peppery, on the nose and palate, it's a Syrah-like red with excellent concentration and firm, grippy tannins, but slightly less ripe fruit characters than the 1998.
