Gabriel Meffre Laurus Gigondas

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Gigondas is the name of the village the grapes come from in this rich, sumtuous, fruity red from the Rhone. Aromas of sweet red raspberries, plums, black pepper and earthiness leap out of the glass, whilst the palate is full-bodied and juicy, with super-ripe dark fruit flavours flooding the palate, along with licks of leather, pepper and earth, fine gentle tannins, and a decent savoury finish. It's a little more 'old school' french, and would match well with BBQ meats.

Winemaker's Notes

A deep, intense purple with a brilliant robe. The nose is full and intense with notes of ripe plum and blackberry wrapped in a delicate veil of vanilla from the oak ageing in Laurus barrels. The palate confirms the nose with a rich, textured mouth feel, ripe silky tannins and a long, spicy finish. Balance, richness and persistence characterise the Laurus Gigondas, which can age well for 10 to 12 years.
