WINESTATE (2009 Vintage) says
Oak dominates the nose and there is a great concentration of rich, chocolaty flavours on the very tannic palate.
WINESTATE Volume 34 (2011) 2011
Jeremy Oliver (2005 Vintage) says
Under-ripe, minty and green-edged, with light cherry/berry fruit beneath vegetal and tobaccoey influences. It's thin, simple and fast-ageing.
Australian Wine Annual 2010 2009

Rob Geddes MW (2005 Vintage) says
Consistent quality and fleshy plump varietal fruit purity, in youth full of maraschino cherry to minty mulberry fruit depending on the year, juicy tannins with firm acid turning cedary with age.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
distinctly savoury overtones to both bouquet and palate are well within varietal compass; silky tannins, moderate length. Surprise Blue-Gold medal Sydney International Wine Competition '08.

WINESTATE (2005 Vintage) says
Spicy and herbal fragrances. Silky-smooth palate rich with flavour and nicely supported by tannin/ oak structure.
Winestate 20082009
James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Light- to medium-bodied; some savoury/astringency which is varietal, but does not have enough sweet fruit remaining; better younger, when it Won a gold medal at the Melbourne Wine Show '03.

Jeremy Oliver (2002 Vintage) says
A pretty varietal merlot whose herbal, tobaccoey aromas of red cherries, plums and restrained cedar/vanilla oak precede a soft, plump and juicy palate of cherry/plum flavours backed by restrained vanilla oak and framed by fine-grained, powdery tannins. There's a faint herbaceousness that is likely to become more cigarboxy in time.

Jeremy Oliver (2001 Vintage) says
A firm, gripoy merlot whose dusty, herbal bouquet of sweet red berries, plums and cherries overlie nuances of undergrowth and sweet aromas of cedar and vanilla oak. Medium to full in weight, it's smooth and supple, presenting a lively, if slightly cooked expression of plums, blackberries and suggestions o; currant framed by firm, drying tannins and creamy oak.

Medium red-purple; the clean, relatively light bouquet is in typical form with spicy I savoury Ileafy overtones; the light to medium-bodied palate has tight, savoury tannins running through its length, providing good texture.

James Halliday (1999 Vintage) says
Medium red-purple; the moderately intense bouquet has a range of leafy/savoury/spice/tobacco aromas, all of which are (to me at least) varietal. The palate has similar pleasantly savoury fruit flavours, finishing with soft, fine tannins.
