James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Nice mix of spicy oak and spicy black fruits; good texture and balance.
Australian Wine Companion 2006 2005
James Halliday (2001 Vintage) says
Bright purple-red; clean, intense black cherry/ blackberry/ spice/ licorice aromas lead into a medium to full-bodied palate, powered by smooth fruit, but with good extract of tannin and oak.

Max Allen & Peter Forrestal (2001 Vintage) says
Garlands is a new small winery on the outskirts of Mount Barker with a vineyard planted in the late 1980s. The 2001 shiraz has attractive cedary oak, is soft, round and velvety with dark plum and black cherry flavours and has a smooth finish that lingers. The price is right.

Ray Jordan (2001 Vintage) says
A sprinkle of black pepper, a little savouriness and some seriously deep and warm ripe plummy fruit starts to mark its mark on the first whiff. The aroma is superb, but it gets better. Supremely balanced with a soft and generous flavour profile that is sustained to a long finish. Amble and generous. Impressive stuff. You have got to grab some this. It's glorious
Ray Jordan's 2004 WA Wine Guide 2004
James Halliday (2000 Vintage) says
Medium red-purple; the moderately intense bouquet has clean, fresh, but noticeably ripe berry fruit, that ripeness manifesting itself on the powerful, slightly jammy palate, which nonetheless scores well for its abundant flavour.
