James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Deep crimson, purple hue; the bouquet reveals lifted toasty oak with dark plum, sage and licorice; the palate is medium-bodied, fleshy and generous, with a taut backbone of acidity and ample fine-grained tannins; long and linear to conclude.

Rob Geddes MW (2010 Vintage) says
This wine has a lot of reserve on release with a very pure regional expression, minerality on the aroma, palate and in the finish with an earthy streak to the tannins. Salty or dried plum aromas with mineral earthyness mark the aromas along with vanilla oak. Medium bodied with fruit sweetness and good soft middle palate definition before drying. Great now with the full Sunday roast.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Strong crimson; a very attractive bouquet of black fruits plus a touch of regional leather and French oak; the palate pulsates with juicy blackberry and dark cherry fruit, the tannins perfectly pitched, the French oak well integrated; 300 dozen made.

Medium body and colour very consistent style tannins are firm and dry when young and the typical fruit weight of the Hunter will take its time to develop and kick in aged flavours at around five years.

Great colour, and a commensurately powerful bouquet and palate, with abundant black fruits offset by drying tannins.

Bright red-purple; a nice balance of dark berry fruit and oak on the bouquet flows into a palate with smooth, deep fruit, featuring excellent tannin and oak management. A very good wine from a very good vintage.

James Halliday (1998 Vintage) says
Light to medium red; the bouquet is light, with a range of gamey/earthy/savoury regional fruit characters. The palate, too, shows strongly earthy/regional fruit characters with quite obvious vanilla oak.
