Not for beginners, massive deep colour and intense rim, smells dense dusty, mint, five spice, blackberry fruits and liquorice. The palate starts big and fruity with Mc Laren Vale black fruitiness preceeding the minty savoury earthy flavours and big tannins on the finish. Needs time to soften and show its unique style. Suits winter roasts and meat cooked on the bones.

Typical dense colour; scented black fruit aromas lead into a full-bodied palate (what else?) with layers of fruit and ripe tannins, the latter a by-product of 12 weeks' maceration and 14 months in French oak.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Typical dense colour; brooding black fruits and dark chocolate in more or less equal proportions; the tannins have been very well controlled, and the wine is already drinkable, but has years to go

Highly fragrant, with plenty of juicy red fruits on the palate; nice vibrant acidity on the finish, cleans up the fruit profile well.
