Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay

Nick Stock (2010 Vintage) says
Wow. This is the greatest Giaconda chardonnay I can recall, showing immense power and scintillating, tight-wound complexity; it s a thrill to taste. Flinty and breathtaking minerally accents, the sulphides are as good as you d get in most Burgundian cellars _ better, in fact. Grapefruit and lime, nectarine and chalk, yellow wild flowers and plenty of grilled hazelnut in the mix; it s captivating. The palate s powerfully realised with strong stone fruit flavour and a wealth of textural layering. It drives long, and grapefruit citrus builds pithy presence; the fade is slow, really lingers. This is a landmark Giaconda, make no mistake.

This is a slightly more restrained style for Rick Kinzbrunner, but also big on matchstick, sue-lie, chicken-stocky, non-fruit complexities. It's refined, soft, beautifully textured and fleshy in the mouth; powerful and long, rich yet reserved.

A striking wine from the very outset, with its complex solids-derived nose that has a flinty edge of granitic soil and a sense of perfectly ripe chardonnay fruit. There are citrus and stone fruits and nutty, oak-derived complexity gathering at the edges - the sense of drinking great white Burgundy doesn't leave your mind for a second, and yet it's undeniably Australian. The palate plays a compelling game of pitching restraint and chirpy acid against rich, fruit ripeness and swagger - engaging stuff. This has been beautifully worked and styled - layered and complex, with plenty more to come. Fresh almond finish, very long.
