Nose: Cassis, pencil shavings, dried herbs, graphite, plum pudding, molasses, roasted malt and hints of earthy forest floor.

Palate: Firm tannins with touches of dark chocolate, fresh vanilla beans, dark roasted coffee and soy. Has a long life ahead of it.

This Yarra Claret is in terrific shape in 2010, showing plenty of ripe and supple spiced blue and black fruits, some cassis and cherry plums and leafy nuances. The palate shows plenty of flesh and supple tannins, dark chocolate, dark berries and hints of spice throughout. Medium to full bodied in 2010 - a great vintage!

There is a real lift of fruit on the nose with jubey characters in there. Terrific fruit intensity with lifted red berry and cedar. It was a more rapid ripening year but has excellent fruit intensity and substance. The cabernet dominance is really to the fore and showing excellent Yarra characters of redcurrant and sweet, ripe fruit. Silky fine, smooth, ripe tannins.

This is a blend of forty-eight per cent cabernet sauvignon, forty-seven per cent merlot and then dashes of cabernet franc and petit verdot. It's a true Bordeaux-blend and has all the structure and breadth of flavour you'd expect. 2005 RELEASE I'm amazed at how long this took to come up in the glass. Given time though, it shows as a firm, expansive red, bold with mulberries and pencil, undergrowth, milk chocolate and the finest, cedary oak. I reckon this needs at least ten years in a cool, dark place. It is a monster - of the most highly structured kind. It's going to live for a very long time. DRINK 2013-2023.
