James Halliday (1998 Vintage) says
Medium purple-red; the wine has a slightly higher level of charry barrel-ferment oak flavours than does the varietal version; precisely the same balance is struck on the palate, and I would prefer to see less oak and a little more fruit.

Michael Cooper (1998 Vintage) says
In the "home block" vineyard surrounding the winery at Gibbston, are some of the oldest Pinot Noir vines in Central Otago. The debut 1998 vintage is impressively full-bodied, concentrated and complex. Full ruby in hue, with fresh, strong aromas of raspberries and spice, it's a mouthfilling wine with rich, plummy flavours wrapped in quality oak, soft acidity and good tannin structure. It should flourish with age; open 2001+.
