Cracka Review

There’s something refreshing about Gypsie Jack’s catch cry of: “It’s just a bloody Beverage.” These larrikin winemakers from Langhorne Creek like to keep it real in an industry that is often far too serious. Nothing serious about this wine either, showing the scintillating spice and juicy framework of the Malbec grape. Expect dark berries and plum amidst lifted floral aromas before a generously fruited palate with soft tannins. Perfect with barbecued ribs.

Winemaker's Notes

The fruit for this Malbec comes from our loyal Langhorne Creek growers. Predominantly trellised on a Smart Dyson system, this allows optimum sunlight and exposure for full ripening and vine balance. This promotes flavour and tannin ripeness, not just sugar ripeness.

Warm, dry conditions leading upto vintage provided full flavoured Malbec with great intensity.

Deep red/purple in colour with a nose of plums and dark fruits along with lifted violet characters and some spice. The palate shows excellent ripe plum fruit, with soft subtle tannins.

Designed to drink now, with a maximum cellaring potential of 5-8 years.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Impenetrable colour; a very oaky bouquet with lifted black fruit and a touch of spice; big, rich and ripe, the wine travels along a single dimension, offering generosity on the journey

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Langhorne Creek Malbec Verdot, but also dips and wanders on its way through to the finish; plenty of overall flavour.
Australian Wine Companion 2009 2008
WINESTATE (2005 Vintage) says
Still fresh and lively, with a savoury/herbal nose and soft wild fruit flavours showing herbal notes and well supported by hot, firm tannins.
