Goldridge Estate Premium Reserve Hawke's Bay Merlot

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2008 Vintage) says
Priced sharply, the 2008 vintage is a single-vineyard red, grown in The Triangle. A blend of Merlot (89 per cent), Cabernet Franc (6 per cent) and Malbec (5 per cent), it was matured in mostly French oak barriques (25 per cent new). It is concentrated and deeply coloured, with vibrant plum and spice flavours and film tannins.

Michael Cooper (2007 Vintage) says
The 2007 vintage from Matakana Estate offers good value. Hand-picked from a single vineyard and matured for 10 months in mostly French oak barriques (25 per cent new), it is dark, with concentrated plum/spice flavours, a slight herbal thread and chewy tannins. It shows some development, but also good generosity.

The 2000 vintage doesn't measure up to the overkill on the back label, but is still a decent red. A single-vineyard wine, matured in new and one-year-old French oak casks, it's full-coloured, with strong blackcurrant/plum flavours in a vibrantly fruity and smooth, moderately complex style.
