Goldwater New Dog Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2004 Vintage) says
Bold and weighty, with a striking intensity of pineapple and passionfruit-like flavours in top vintages, in the past this wine was grown mainly in the Dog Point vineyard in the Brancott Valley, but in 2003 the grapes were drawn principally horn a vineyard in St Leonard's Road, in the heart of the Wairau Valley (hence the label change from 'Dog Point' to 'New Dog'}. The wine is fermented almost to full dryness (the 2004 vintage has 3. 4 grams/litre of residual sugar) and lees-aged for three months, with frequent stirring, in stainless steel tanks; a small percentage is barrel-fermented. The 2003 vintage has good weight, a freshly herbaceous bouquet and strong, tangy gooseberry/lime flavours, woven with lively acidity. The 2004 is ripely scented and flavoured, with good body and depth of tropical-fruit flavours, tangy and dry.

Michael Cooper (2003 Vintage) says
Bold and weighty, with a striking intensity of pineapple and passion fruit-like flavour, enlivened with fresh acidity, this is an exceptionally power-packed Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes were in the past grown mainly in the Dog Point vineyard in the Brancott Valley, but in 2003 were drawn principally from a vineyard in St Leonard's Road, in the heart of the Wairau Valley (hence the label change from 'Dog Point' to 'New Dog'). The wine is fermented almost to full dryness (the 2003 vintage has 3.5 grams/litre of residual sugar) and lees-aged for three months, with frequent stirring, in stainless steel tanks; a small percentage is barrel-fermented. The 2003 vintage has good weight, a freshly herbaceous bouquet and strong, tangy gooseberry/lime flavours. Woven with lively acidity, it's a tightly structured wine that should open out well during.
