Greywacke Late Harvest Riesling 375mL

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Named after the river stones found in the vineyard soils, Greywacke is the brainchild of founding Cloudy Bay winemaker, Kevin Judd - so as you would expect, the wines are pretty damn good! This cheeky little riesling is a sweet, dessert-style wine that shows lovely aromas of citrus rind, white florals, soft spices and creaminess on the nose. The palate is sweet and sumptuous, with tastes of preserved orange and dried stone fruits, limey acidity, and a lush vanillian finish. It would be great with poached fruit desserts.

Winemaker's Notes

A wine of intense aromatics – exotic honeysuckle blossom, candied lemon and vanilla custard, infused with a hint of cloves. The luscious palate has a marmalade-like combination of lemons and limes mingled with the richness of honeyed apricots and a dollop of cre`me caramel. Silky, succulent and harmonious – finishing with a lively citrusy crispness.

Greywacke Late Harvest Riesling 375mL

Expert Reviews

Campbell Mattinson (2011 Vintage) says
Super sweet late harvest dessert wine from Greywacke.

Has some unusual qualities. It essentially tastes of orange marmalade, keen lime and cumquat but then there’s an ashen, smoky note layered over the top. Gives it an overlay of dryness in the context of intense sweetness. Pleasant enough, if not quite in the league of the asking price.
