Reviews and Accolades

Bright, even, ruby-red colour with some depth, and lighter purple hues on edge. The nose is fresh, primary-fruited and uncomplicated with aromas of raspberry fruit, red liquorice and fruit pastille confectionary suggesting whole berry fermentation. Some liquorice and herb nuances emerge with aeration. Medium-bodied, bright, plush, sweet fruit flavours of ripe raspberries and red cherry fruit are the feature on palate. Whole berry fermentation lift and confectionary notes add brightness to the primary fruit expression. The fruit is supported by supple, fine grainy tannin structure with discreet acidity adding to the juiciness and energy. The wine flows to a plush, succulent, aromatic finish. This is an up-front, juicy, primary-fruited Pinot Noir with flavours of ripe raspberries and a supple mouthfeel. Match with antipasto, pasta and poultry over the next 3+ years. Hand-picked fruit from the Awatere and Upper Wairau Valleys, fermented to 13.5% alc., 45% of the wine aged 8 months in French oak barrels.

Winemaker's Notes

This wine is hand picked from idllyic vineyards in the Awatere Valley and Upper Wairau Valley, Marlborough, New Zealand.  The soils are ancient river beds with free draining stony soils and silty clay loams. A warm summer provided delicate flavours and structure.

Appearance: A wonderful ruby colour, this wine is very attractive in the glass.

Nose: Delicate floral notes, rich wild berries with a spicy clove and cinnamon nose.

Palate: Soft cherry and berries combine with savoury spice on the palate following into structured round tannins and a long dry finish.

Food: This wine is delicious on its own, or with salads, chicken, and seafood dinners.

Alcohol: 13.5%

Michael Cooper (2012 Vintage) says
Highly fruit-driven style, grown mostly in the Awatere Valley and matured for nine months in tanks (60 percent new) and barrels (40 per cent). Full-coloured and supple, with good vigour and depth of fresh, cherryish, plummy flavour. A drink-young charmer.
