Hamelin Bay Cabernet Sauvignon

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

This is what gold-medal winning Cabernet tastes like, according to the judges of 2010 Margaret River wine show and we are not going to disagree with such an accolade. Bust out the lamb chops and light up the burners as this will make a phenomenal match. Expect typical Cabernet characters of plum and chocolate with a dusting of mint, on the palate it’s fleshy with firm tannins and a persistent finish.

Winemaker's Notes

Colour: Medium to dark red cherry in colour.

Nose: Tempting aromas of red brambles, chocolate and orange rind.

Palate: The palate is rich and restrained with a sweet full mid palate and lingering flavours finishing with fine velvety tannins.

Serving Suggestion: Enjoy with Slow Roasted Lamb.

This wine has been bottled with Stelvin screw caps to ensure years of fault free enjoyment.

This is as good as any cabernet yet produced from Hamelin Bay. Beautiful perfumed aromatics of cedary and red berry with typical mintiness. The palate is a sublimely textured seamless yet powerful statement of cabernet. Finishes very long. Great balance and poise.

Angus Hughson (2004 Vintage) says
Margaret River is a benchmark region for Australian Cabernet; the wines having ripe and elegant fruit with the structure to age well in the bottle. The Hamelin Bay Cabernet follows this formula perfectly; perfumed and attractive with layered fruit, good structure and finish
James Halliday (2001 Vintage) says
Strong red-purple; earthy blackberry fruit, with hints of herb a la Coonawarra, is followed by a very concentrated, herbal/ herbaceous palate with lingering tannins. There are some very interesting dynamics going on with the Hamelin Bay red wines.

James Halliday (2000 Vintage) says
Deep red-purple; potent, brooding blackberry, spice and cedar aromas flow into a palate as powerful as the bouquet suggests, playing black fruit flavours against a savoury, slightly grippy finish. 15° alcohol; the kind of wine one expects from McLaren Vale, not Margaret River.
