Hamelin Bay Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Is two better than one? In the case of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc from the Margaret River then yes, as the harmony between the two makes for a much more interesting wine. It’s imbued with citrus fruits and has notes of cut grass from the Sauvignon. It’s an elegantly balanced wine with fresh flavours of tropical fruits and some attractive mineral notes. It finishes dry with nicely crunchy acids, that make it even more appealing with oysters.

Winemaker's Notes

Fresh and vibrant, with an elegant, long lingering, dry mineral finish.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Pale straw; a restrained but intense and tight blend, lemony semillon leading the way on both bouquet and palate, with a tropical twist on the very long finish. Trophies for Best White Blend at both WA and Adelaide Wine Shows '09.

Very pale; slightly green pea pod bouquet with a background of ripe citrus; the palate is fresh and lively, with mouth-watering acidity to clean up.

Builds progressively through the palate to the finish after a slightly smoky/sweaty start; quite lemony, which is typical of the vintage.

James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Light straw-green; the clean, crisp bouquet has a mix of mineral, spice and herb flavours. The bright and lively palate is intense and long; another positive wine from Hamelin Bay for this vintage.

James Halliday (1997 Vintage) says
Medium yellow-green; a fragrant bouquet with Sauvignon Blanc the dominant partner, and providing sweet gooseberry fruit over a more grassy undertone. The palate has good balance and fruit ripeness, with Sauvignon Blanc again driving the wine.
