Barbera is such a good food wine, and seriously underrated here in Oz, so now is the time to jump on the barbera (pronounced bar-bear-ah) before too many people find out about it. This offering from Geoff Hardy is a medium-bodied, succulent number that shows lots of plums, blueberries and red cherries on the nose, along with a sniff of subtle earthy spice. The palate is quite graceful and poised, with a smoky fruit centre, fine tannins, and a juicy, slightly leafy finish. It's worth a crack with some blackbean pork at your local Chinese. 

Winemaker's Notes

This lovely Italian variety originates in Piedmonte where it is prided for being beautiful robust, long-aging reds. Here in Australia we are blessed with the same promise it keeps for the Italians. The nose is lifted with aromas of plum, cherry cola and green tea leaf.

The palate is juicy with red fruit, cherry, plum and raspberry notes. Decanting shows deeper, smokey tobacco notes.

Have this wine with friends over a pot sticky pork ribs with delicate sweet soy sauce, string beans fragrant rice.
