Cracka Review

Terolwhat? Geoff Hardy has gone way out on a limb with this puppy, drawn from the entirely unknown and unappreciated grape variety Teroldego. What makes Teroldego special is just how dark, berried and spicy it is, a wonderful cavalcade of mulberry goodness.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2013 Hand Crafted Teroldego is a beautiful and youthful wine with a vibrant purple hue. Aromas of sweet mulberries, cherries and raspberries jump out of the glass, complemented by earthy undertones. The medium- bodied palate is young and playful with juicy fruits and hints of Turkish Delight.

This is a very versatile style that can be enjoyed on a hot, breezy summer night or nestled in front of the fireplace. Try with soft shell blue swimmer crab in a tamarind sauce.

Until recent times Teroldego was found exclusively in the Trentino region of Italy. It has a long, fascinating and well documented history. The oldest known reference to Teroldego dates back to 1840 in a contract recording the purchase of 100 litres of the precious liquid. Now that we have managed to pry a few cuttings from the hands of passionate Trentino producers, the ‘Lucky Country’ seems a likely place for this variety to flourish like the many talented Italian immigrants that have come before it.

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
This is a truly exciting first-up release, with a sunburst of mulberry and cherry fruit of tremendous length, the finish zesty and lingering. Tannin isn't obvious, and is not needed. Geoff Hardy thinks the wine will develop very well, and adopt further complexity; I'm happy with what there is today.
