Handpicked is a good name for a label. It hints at the artisan or the nurtured. It’s actually a collaboration between Handpicked and a producer of choice making a wine that best represents their region and their own approach to winemaking. Here’s a Merlot from French Winemaker Dominique Portet using Yarra Valley fruit. The result is a generous nose of plum and chocolate with hints of spice before a soft palate of well-measured tannins. It finishes long and goes brilliantly with barbecued ribs.
This merlot is striking to the eye with its deep ruby colour. Very elegant and refined to the nose with pure aromatics of small berry fruits, blackcurrant and blueberry. The wine is aged in French barrique and has very well integrated oak producing complexity and length with soft tannin on the palate.
