James Halliday (2001 Vintage) says
Black fruit, plum, licorice and dark chocolate, with a savoury twist on the finish; very good spirit; one of the best going around.

WINESTATE (2001 Vintage) says
Deep red/purple hues. Huge dusty licorice bouquet - quite lovely. Very savoury on the palate, with plenty of warming alcohol. Needs a little more time.

James Halliday (1996 Vintage) says
Dense, deep red, showing the first signs of losing its purple rim. The potent blackberry and spice bouquet has that typical tangy/brandy spirit which is the hallmark of the style. The palate is rich, verging on thick, and mouth-coating, an outstanding example of old-fashioned Vintage Port, Australian style. Simply needs 20 years, give or take a decade.
Australian Wine Companion 2003 2002
James Halliday (1984 Vintage) says
Dense purple-red; potent dark berry chocolate with ever so distinctive brandy spirit aromas followed by a palate of chocolate, blackberry and liquorice shot through with lingering spirit and finishing with appropriate tannins. A trophy and gold medal winner.
Australian Wine Companion 2000 1999
James Halliday (1983 Vintage) says
Bin D595. Medium to foil red; a sweet, gently chocolaty bouquet is penetrated by fine brandy spirit; the palate is still rich and full with touches of liquorice, brandysnap and spice, completed by a long, clean finish. (Bottled November 1983.)
