Harewood Estate Reserve Riesling

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

This little puppy is a bright, citrusy young thing that is already picking up some silver bling from wine shows. Lemons are the theme here, but there are hints of spice and white florals. The palate is pretty dry and nimble, with with lots of lemony and tropical flavours, zippy acidity, and a dry, zesty finish. It will kick on in the cellar for a few years!

Winemaker's Notes

The grapes for this wine were sourced from one of the oldest plantings of riesling in the porongurup ranges of western australia’s great southern wine region. This reserve riesling is from the original top block of 40 year old Geisenheim and rhine riesling vines.

Only the finest, more pristine, “free-run” juice was used in the production of this wine resulting in a palate of outstanding finesse, free from the harsh, phenolic characters and deeper colours associated with grape pressings.

A long, cool ferment in stainless steel tanks, minimal fining and the use of screw caps are all further steps towards capturing the inherent delicacy of this cool climate variety.

Appearance: A brilliant, exceptionally pale straw colour with youthful green tinges.

Nose: The wine exhibits intense citrus blossom and hints of riper pear enhanced by an underlying spicy honeysuckle complexity.

Palate: A seamless palate, with initial flavours of lemon zest leading to a textured spicier mid-palate of passion fruit and slate finishing with classic taut steely acidity. the fine structure is testament to the care taken during this wines production.

Cellaring: This wines youthful intensity and fruit-driven vibrancy can be enjoyed over the next two to three years. cellaring for up to 20 years will be rewarded with the classic complex, toasty, textured characters of an aged cool-climate riesling.
