Michael Cooper (2000 Vintage) says
A characterful West Auckland red, previously based on Merlot. The 2000 vintage the first to include Cabernet Franc (16 per cent) in the blend, is gamey, spicy, earthy and leathery, with a firm underlay of tannin. It tastes ready. The 2001 clearly reflects the challenging season. Made principally from Cabernet Franc (60 per cent), blended with Merlot (32 per cent) and Cabernet Sauvignon (8 per cent), it was matured for 10 months in new and seasoned French oak barriques. Lightish in colour, it lacks real fruit sweetness and concentration, but shows some coffee and spice complexity, with a firm finish. Ready.
