Hartz Barn Barossa Carriages Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

At 13.5% alcohol, this is amazingly elegant for a wine from a toasty vintage. Smells of dark berries and cherries decorate the nose, along with a touch of dried herbs. The palate is pretty much the same, and it's all wrapped up in fine tannins, friendly acidity, and a decent finish. Ideal with beef.

Winemaker's Notes

A nose of dense blackcurrent, cherries and blackberry combine with ripe tannins, excellent mouth feel and length, delivers a well-balanced wine with distinction to share with family, friends and good food.

Expert Reviews

WINESTATE (2009 Vintage) says
Good lifted varietal aromatics and generous, full-bodied palate with nice tannic backbone in support.
Winestate Magazine, Mar/Apr
James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Has the clear varietal expression that the Barossa achieves in vintages such as this, the emphasis on blackcurrant, then fine tannins on the finish.
Australian Wine Companion 2009 2008
James Halliday (2003 Vintage) says
Good colour; plenty of depth to nicely ripened, expressive, cabernet sauvignon; defies common wisdom about the variety (unsuited to the Barossa Valley) and vintage (difficult).
Australian Wine Companion 2007 2006
James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Ripe, deep, dense blackcurrant and blackberry fruit; ripe tannins, subtle oak; long finish.
