Heidenreich Old School Graduates Cabernet Sauvignon

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

This is quite a 'nuggety' style of wine that has a touch of body-builder about it. There's about 15% alcohol in this puppy, and on the nose it shows lots of plummy fruits, mocha and baked spices on the nose. The palate is full-bodied and uber-ripe, with generous licks of chocolaty oak and fruitcake, smooth tannins, and a juicy, warming finish. Needs meat!

Winemaker's Notes

A big solid chocolate/plum/tobacco wine that could be mistaken for a Shiraz. Berries and spices on the nose and an intense, rich concentration of flavours.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Deeply coloured; a full-bodied powerful cabernet that largely throws off the shackles of its alcohol, with a proud display of black fruits, a touch of dark chocolate and firm, but balanced, tannins.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Alcohol impacts more on cabernet than shiraz, investing this wine with inappropriate sweetness; vanilla oak adds its contribution. Does have abundant flavour.

WINESTATE (2005 Vintage) says
Heavily oaked style but has enough fruit to carry it. Excellent palate structure and flavour, with excellent fruit sweetness.
