Cracka Review

Heirloom venture to the Barossa Valley to bring you this rich and fulsome shiraz from an outstanding vintage. Cherries and spice and all things nice decorate the nose, along with hints of mocha and blackcurrants. The palate is full-bodied and chocolaty, with lush dark fruit flavours, a decent line of talcy tannins, and a plush, spiced finish with a lick of toastiness. This will kick on for a decade or so in the cellar.

Winemaker's Notes

This Heirloom Vineyards Shiraz was produced from our best Barossa Shiraz Vineyard whose clones and viticulture embody the very best in cutting edge but old school viticulture and winemaking. Hand tended vines, sorted bunch-by-bunch, naturally open fermented, basket pressed and stored in French oak barriques from bespoke coopers.

This wine has an intense bright purple hue and an inkier royal red carpet colour closer to the center of the glass.

The aroma is an astonishing and lifted brace of blackberries, spice and even a perfume like touch of blueberries. Pure fruit and spice that is not in any way overwhelmed by winemaking artifact. The wine has a concentration of aromas that come from not over-ripe fruits. The smells change quickly in the glass and are fascinating to follow but the mouth beckons.

There is quite a remarkable entry to the palate. A seamless soft but structured shiraz, lots of blackberries again for sure but also a mid-palate dark chocolate spice that whooshes through the mouth that you want to slow it down and check it out. There is some cream and spice from the French Oak and an almost chalk like tannin structure but it's all about the pure fruit.

An extraordinary Shiraz from the Barossa that will cellar well - 10, 20, 30+ or more years, but is so deliciously perfect now any argument for delayed gratification is almost academic.

James Halliday (2013 Vintage) says
Deep colour; this is a luscious and velvety full-bodied shiraz, black fruits shading out any possibility of red fruits getting a look in; it is far from one-dimensional, ripe tannins and oak adding to (nor competing with) the fruit. This will serenely cruise on over several decades without losing its compass.

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Medium crimson-purple; balance and harmony are the keywords, an expressive red and black fruit bouquet leading into a gently juicy palate framed by fine, soft tannins and quality oak; this medium-bodied Shiraz easily carries its alcohol
