Heirloom Vineyards Eden Valley Shiraz

Cracka Review

This Heirloom Vineyards Eden Valley Shiraz was produced from our best Eden Valley Shiraz Vineyard whose clones and viticulture embody the very best in cutting edge but old school viticulture and winemaking. Hand tended vines, sorted bunch-by-bunch, naturally open fermented, basket pressed and stored in French oak barriques from bespoke coopers.

Appearance: Being an old vine cooler climate Shiraz the wine has an intense bright purple hue and an inkier royal red carpet colour closer to the center of the glass.

Nose: This Heirloom Vineyards Eden Valley Shiraz has lifted red fruit signature of Eden Shiraz, but its site also offers some very unique and distinctive aromas of blackberry and intriguing notes of a spice, and the perfume of blueberries. The palate is cool, fresh and lightly, but persistently fruity and very zingy. The finish is fine, natural and unforced. This is a masterful essay in winemaking and sense of place. It’s a delicious, confident drink.

Palate: The palate is cool, fresh and lightly, but persistently fruity and very zingy. The finish is fine, natural and unforced. This is a masterful essay in winemaking and sense of place. It’s a delicious, confident drink. There is some cream and spice from the French Oak but it’s all about the pure fruit.

Cellaring: An extraordinary Shiraz from the Eden Valley that will cellar well – 10, 20, 30+ or more years, but is so deliciously perfect now any argument for delayed gratification is almost academic.

Alcohol: 14.0%

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Medium crimson-purple; there are spicy aromas to the black fruits of the bouquet, and the structure and texture of the medium-bodied palate is outstanding, the blackberry and licorice flavours supported by perfect tannins, oak seamlessly joined to the whole parade; has wonderful length.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Strong crimson-purple; an exceptionally well made medium-bodied wine, with spice and licorice black fruit aromas that flow into the textured and complex flavoured palate, where red fruits also make an appearance with quality oak and ripe tannins in support.
