Cracka Review

One taste and it’s easy to see that Hentley Farm have taken a lot of care to craft their Caretaker Shiraz. This more-ish Shiraz fills the mouth with a delicious combination of blackcurrant, aniseed and cinnamon flavours. It has a firm tannins that are great with hearty meals like lamb shanks or osso buco.

Winemaker's Notes

Primary aromatics of blackcurrant and aniseed combine with the underlying oakderived aromatics of cinnamon, vanillin, mocha and chocolate to create a nose of great complexity and intensity. The palate is a display of traditional Barossa, with strong tannin structure throughout, intense red and black fruit, combined with well integrated oak and balanced acid.

Hentley Farm Caretaker Barossa Valley Shiraz

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Dense, deep purple-crimson; a luscious bundle of black fruits of every description, licorice, dark chocolate and spice, yet the tannins are soft, and the wine can be drunk now or in 10 or more years' time with equal enjoyment. Sensational value.
Australian Wine Companion 2012
Nick Stock (2010 Vintage) says
Showing the youthful and charming side of the Yarra Valley, this wine has bright purple fruits on offer in the plum and blackberry spectrum, quite floral here too; light spice builds in the glass. The palate is a fleshy dark berry and plum-flavoured affair with plenty of flesh, gentle chocolate, spice here also, and a playful tannin squeeze through the finish.
Good Wine Guide
James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Strong purple; a very dense wine from start to finish; there must be some very powerful and rich shirazs to follow in due course; needs, and will repay, some years in bottle.
