Hentley Farm Fool's Bay 'Beached' Shiraz Cabernet

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Hently Farm are a relatively new addition to the Barossa family, releasing their first wines in 2002 from the brown soils of Seppeltsfield in the Western Barossa. Overt, modern styles they radiate well-ripened fruit, as well as being generous and easy to enjoy.

The 2009 Beached is deeply coloured, has layers of dark cassis, chocolate and plummy fruit finishing big and bold with silky tannins. Rack of lamb would go nicely. Funny name, great wine and certainly not to be taken too lightly.

Winemaker's Notes

This is a full bodied wine deep purple in colour, which shows hints of herbaceous cabernet combined with rich fruits of ripe blackberry and currant. The palate is equally rich, with intense red and black fruits, strong tannin structure and layered finish.

Deep crimson; attractive, richly fruited wine, ideal for barbecue/informal drinking over the next few years.

Good varietal aromas of plums and chocolate. Palate warm and quite mature and chocolaty for an 08.

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Light- to medium-bodied; direct red and black fruits run through a relatively long palate; good value.

Nick Stock (2006 Vintage) says
This toasty little blend snapped up gold at the Adelaide wine show with its direct black fruits and savoury oak toast. The savoury profile runs through the palate too, squaring off the fruit sweetness and accentuating the regional dusty tannin grip.

Peter Forrestal (2006 Vintage) says
This is from Hentley Farm in the Barossa and has rich, concentrated, ripe blackberry and dark plum flavours, fleshy almost syrupy texture, and a supple, balanced finish.
