Higher Plane Merlot

Cracka Review

Margaret River has proved itself to be well suited to the production of fine Merlot.

Our Merlot is grown on the vineyard block that has higher clay to gravel mixture, and is medium to full-bodied, with good colour, the palate juicy and succulent with mid-palate weight, and supple with richness and persistence.

The wine has a spectrum of aromas and flavours that cover raspberry, redcurrant, rhubarb, plum, lavender, fruitcake, chocolate and spice characters.

French oak provides a framework to the fruit, contributing cedary and spice notes.

Higher Plane Merlot has instant front palate appeal, plush Christmas cake flavours delineated by ripe fine tannins and subtle oak, crisp acid, balanced alcohol and long finish.

Only Winning Medal Wine in class - 2011 Cowra Wine Show
“Plums, spice and developing with some leather notes and tomato; good berry fruit and varietal structure with ripe fruit sweetness; complex, soft acid and good length.” - Drinks Trade Magazine, June/July Issue 23

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Very good varietal expression, with an interplay between cassis fruit and savoury olive and spice nuances; the tannins are evident but balanced, the oak likewise.

Ray Jordan (2007 Vintage) says
A combination of a very good vintage and the maturing vines on this southern Margaret River vineyard is combining to produce some might handy merlots. This one is right on the money, showing both finesse and lingering fruit driven palate power. Like the subtle balance of opulent fruit and light cedary oak. Has plenty of mid palate weight to carry the finish.

I think mum's fruit pudding's been tossed in here. It's classic ripe currant and plum pudding of merlot. The palate has a silky satiny texture, with layer upon layer of deep lush fruit. The balance is superb with quality oak. While's fleshy and succulent it also has a fine firm spine that keeps it focused and long. This is merlot as merlot should be
