Higher Plane South by Southwest Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

It's bright, it's zesty, it's from Margaret River and would be the bomb with a seafood platter. Need to know more? Smells of citrus, passionfruit, gooseberries and grassiness decorate the nose, whilst the palate is lighter-bodied and racy, with zippy lemon and grapefruit flavours, sabre-like acidity, and a crisp, dry, refreshing finish.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2013 SSB is a delicately poised, yet round and generous expression of one of the region’s best known white blends. Light to medium bodied but with none of the usual green, herbaceous characters usually found at this level. This wine is more about lovely ripe yellow citrus, lemon sorbet, kaffir lime and grapefruit. Clean on the palate with fresh but soft acidity providing a long and generous finish.

Ray Jordan (2011 Vintage) says
Nice herbaceous tropical fruit notes on the nose with a little twist of lemon. The palate is typically zingy with a racy lingering acidity perfectly infused into the palate. Has a crunchy lip smacking mouth feel. Excellent current drinking.

Bracing tight and lively blend with a real spirit in its stride. Lots of gooseberry and herbal notes with a palate that is precise and crisp while retaining an appealing mouth feel. Lovely wine for current drinking.

Crisp and clean, with some tropical fruit notes, but is lacking intensity.

Higher Plane has been taken over by Juniper Estate but still sells wine under its second label 'South by Southwest'. It's situated well to the south of the Margaret River township and so makes some excellent cool whites. This is fresh and vibrant with tangy gooseberry and pineapple flavours, some succulence and zesty acidity that cleanses the palate.

A similar hint of varietal (sauvignon blanc) sweatiness on the bouquet; stone, grass and nettle flavours; slightly short finish.
