Highfield Estate Elstree Optima Chardonnay

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (1997 Vintage) says
Elstree is Highfield's top label. The 1996 vintage is a robust, high-flavoured Marlborough wine with sweet fruit aromas and quality oak on the nose. The palate is savoury and complex, with rich fruit encased in toasty oak and a firm, lingering finish. However, the 1997 is disappointing. Fully fermented in French oak casks (half new), it's a light gold, powerful wine, toasty and buttery, but also slightly honied and hard, lacking freshness, softness and charm on the palate.
