Cracka Review

This is quite a big style of pinot noir from the land of the long white cloud. There is plenty of sweet fruit on the nose of the plums and cherries persuasion, with hints of earthiness and spice. The palate is fullsome and ripely fruited with sweet fruit flavours, fine tannins, and a soft, smooth, warm finish. This could stand up to slow-cooked lamb shoulder.

Winemaker's Notes

Ripe plum, cherry and blackcurrant with well-integrated light oaky spice. Elegant texture and a weighty finish.

Nick Stock (2010 Vintage) says
Plenty of power on display on the nose of the Highfield Pinot Noir _ dark cherry, plum and blackcurrant all make an appearance, along with hints of five spice, licorice, game and smoky oak. Nice flow across the palate and a medium-length, slightly sweet finish.

Really toasty and meaty wine; it leaps from the glass on opening and makes a striking impression. There are red fruits and smoky game-meat nuances; food will make it shine. The oak's a bit over the top, but will mellow in time, with lots of meaty barrel ferment characters. The palate boasts chirpy red fruit and cherry flavours; tannins are fine enough and slip through easily.
