Hirsch Hill Estate Yarra Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Yarra Valley Cabernet gets overlooked for other regions like Coonawarra and Margaret River but the region makes very elegant refined interpretations of this noble grape. There’s delicate aromas of sweet fruits and then pure Cabernet expression of blackcurrant, a hint of chocolate, some subtle oak and lingering tannins on the finish. This dignified drop likes to be decanted and served in your best glasses matched with rare roast lamb.

Winemaker's Notes

Colour: Deep red

Aroma: Intense sweet fruit and nuts

Palate: Rich juicy berry fruit, accents of chocolate, malty oak and long lingering tannins

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Some colour development; has a quite fragrant bouquet and juicy blackcurrant flavours on the medium-bodied palate; good early drinking style.

Medium-bodied; cassis dominates both bouquet and palate but tannins break the line on the back-palate; Gold, International Cool Climate Show '07.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Luscious blackcurrant and cassis fruit suggests greater ripeness/alcohol than the disclosed level of 12.5"; a delicious wine, with good tannin and extract.

WINESTATE (2004 Vintage) says
Deep red in colour. Oodles of ripe cassis and spicy oak fill out the intense aromas. Great depth and weight on the palate, yet maintains balance and finesse; shows a quality oak influence with an appealing softness in texture.
