A small harvest of just 10% of potential volume meant this was fermented in older puncheons. Complex nose and a very steely mineral nose, some bright stone fruits and hints of more exotic tropicals too. The palate is smooth and glossy to start, plenty of cumquat and hints of botrytis here, with dried apricots too _ it has teardrop-like shape with a lively acid sting through the finish. The soil at Hochkirch is basalt volcanic loam on gravel with a clay base, all dry-grown.
