James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Light red fruits; has not been over-extracted or over-oaked, but this is the wrong place for the variety.

James Halliday (2003 Vintage) says
Medium-bodied, with a similar supple mouthfeel to that of the Shiraz; red fruits with near-subliminal regional earthy notes; well-controlled oak and extract.

James Halliday (2000 Vintage) says
Medium purple-red; dusty vanilla oak plus ripe berry fruit on the bouquet are followed by sweet blackcurrant/small berry fruit and vanilla oak on the palate. Does not say a great deal about Merlot, but has plenty of flavour.
Australian Wine Companion 2003 2002
James Halliday (1998 Vintage) says
Medium red with just a touch of purple; the first aromas encountered on the bouquet are of oak, followed by a light regional overlay. The palate has some nice, sweet berry fruit but the oak is overplayed, the oak tannins combining with those of the fruit to unbalance the wine. A lighter touch would have made a very good wine.
