James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Spotlessly clean and fresh bouquet; lively passionfruit, gooseberry and lemon flavours; excellent mouthfeel and length; delicious.
Australian Wine Companion 2008 2007
James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Has faltered somewhat with bottle development; slight vegetal aromas; the palate has length, but drink soon.
Australian Wine Companion 2009 2008
Jeremy Oliver (2005 Vintage) says
A lively, tangy and brightly flavoured blend whose delicate aromas of passionfruit, lemon and tropical fruits reveal nettle-like herbal undertones, with a suggestion of vanilla oak. Tightly focused and refreshing, its long and restrained palate of mouthfilling and lightly herbal fruit fits neatly with a hint of oak and a crisp acidity.
Australian Wine Annual 2007 2006
James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Has developed impressively in bottle; a serious wine, the semillon providing spine and framework; herb, mineral and tropical mix; has both depth and length.
Australian Wine Companion 2007 2006
Jeremy Oliver (2004 Vintage) says
A very competent, finely shaped and juicy wine of delightful flavour and freshness. Its grassy aromas of gooseberries and passionfruit reveal a delicate twist of lemon and a nutty dusting of oak. Finely balanced and refreshing, the palate marries vibrant fruit flavour with restrained oak sweetness and a trace of sugar.
Australian Wine Annual 2006 2005
Jeremy Oliver (2003 Vintage) says
Rather sweaty and botrytised aromas of apricots and candy, with weedy, silage-like undertones. Simple and confectionary, the palate's mango and paw paw flavours culminate in a green-edged lemon drop finish.
Australian Wine Annual 2005 2004
James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Both this and its sister wine, 2002 Moondah Brook Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, are standouts of the vintage. Bright, light yellow-green, the complex bouquet has ripe gooseberry fruit and hints of lees contact and oak. The palate has great depth of ripe gooseberry and citrus fruit; a wine with attitude.
Australian Wine Companion 2004 2003
Ken Gargett (2002 Vintage) says
It's easy to tell who is having a bit of trouble moving their stock by noting when wines are released. This came out around June 2003, almost a year later than some others. Which says to me that the old Crofters probably isn't the hottest item on the shelves these days. But as I have said before, don't let fashion dictate what you drinkÑthis is a lovely wine with plenty of fruity, citrussy characters and good balance.
Don't Buy Wine Without Me 2004 2004
James Halliday (2001 Vintage) says
Bright green-yellow; quite intense lemony/citrussy fruit and a whiff of oak on the bouquet flow into a lively, fresh palate with lemony acidity.
Australian Wine Companion 2003 2002
James Halliday (1999 Vintage) says
Light to medium yellow-green; the bouquet is powerful and potent, with a mix of herb, grass and hay; the palate starts with promise but then falls away on a relatively short finish.
Australian Wine Companion 2001 2001
James Halliday (1997 Vintage) says
Light to medium yellow-green; the bouquet is of light to medium intensity, with passionfruit and a touch of gooseberry augmented by light spicy oak. The palate is neither long nor particularly intense, but is clean, with pleasant, nicely balanced fruit and oak flavours.
Australian Wine Companion 1999 1998
James Halliday (1996 Vintage) says
Medium to full yellow-green; a complex bouquet with melon, a touch of passionfruit and a nice hint of spicy oak in the background. As always with Houghton white wines, very competently made, with the Margaret River semillon component the dominant player. Good overall fruit and oak balance.
