Houghton Wisdom Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir

Expert Reviews

Ray Jordan (2007 Vintage) says
This is drinking just beautifully now. The lifted floral notes of chardonnay and the meaty gamey yeast character of the pinot noir come together superbly. The palate is complete and seamless to a long finish. Fine persistent bead and lots of lingering intensity that you get in the best sparklers. Excellent wine.

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
The mousse is still fine and persistent; extended lees age has imparted a strong brioche/yeast overlay to the very fine fruit - indeed almost too fine, but that is a quibble.

Nick Stock (2006 Vintage) says
The cool 2006 vintage has worked this beauty into impressive shape, with bright and assertive fruits - really swift and piercing. Some toasty complexity sits deep, with grapefruit and lemon-scented citrus, sweet, dried florals and lemon oil, and some toasty hints wafting in the background. Impressive crunchy acid marks out the palate, with nectarine and grapefruit citrus, some red apple and a sweep of chalky nougat to close. Impressive intensity here.

Nick Stock (2005 Vintage) says
Terrific complexity here, really rich and toasty with some dried lemon peel and complex autolysis characters too. The palate has fantastic richness and soft, sweet stone fruit flavour, some peach skin and gentle cashew nut through the finish. Terrific power and balance.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
A tightly framed wine with a strong minerally streak binding the stone fruit and citrus flavours into a seamless line; bottle fermented.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Distinctive and unusual aromas described by Houghton as toasty and button mushroom; delicate, precisely focused citrus palate, with great length and balance.
Australian Wine Companion 2010 2009
James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Bright straw-green; fine bead; has an extra dimension of power, flavour and length; intense stone fruit and yeasty/ creamy notes throughout the length of the palate; four years on lees.
Australian Wine Companion 2009 2008
James Halliday (2000 Vintage) says
Elegant creamy/nutty overtones to supple stone fruit; harmonious and stylish.
Australian Wine Companion 2006 2005
James Halliday (1999 Vintage) says
Very light straw-green; a fresh, tangy, citrussy bouquet leads into a palate with almost gossamer-like delicacy to the white peach and citrus fruit; leaves the mouth as fresh as a daisy.
