Cracka Review

Epic is exactly the word to describe this cool-climate Chardonnay as it’s the realisation of winemaker Michael Hatcher’s vision to make the best expression of the Tumbarumba region. We were blown away by the quality of this finessed Chardonnay that clearly indicates where Australia is heading stylistically. Varietal aromas of peach and nectarine with a core of rich, oak this wine is elegance personified. Amazing complexity on the palate, with the fruit and oak in perfect balance before natural acids complete the picture. Epic indeed.

Winemaker's Notes

Light gold colouring with green flecks. Aromas of fresh grapefruits and white stonefruit and hints of charry oak. The palate shows intense depth of flavour with well integrated French oak providing support and structure. The flavours are a complex array of citrus, grapefruit, white stonefruit and nutty oak. The wine shows wonderful balance and length with natural acidity leading to a lingering crisp dry finish.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Yellow-gold; packaged in an epic heavyweight bottle; stone fruit, melon and cashew aromas are repeated on the palate, the finish lifted and lengthened by bright citrus and mineral acidity.

Ray Jordan (2008 Vintage) says
My initial take on this cracking good chardonnay was a wine of real class. This was confirmed recently when it won the trophy for the Best Young Chardonnay at the 2010 NSW Wine Awards. It is minerality and tightly framed, with a racy fine acid supporting the subtly textured fruit. Has terrifically lean, long lines that sustain the palate. Outstanding wine, worth checking out.
