Hunter's Wines Marlborough Pinot Gris

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Here we have a more off-dry style of pinot gris out of EnZed that would be the bomb with some Asian-inspired dishes - especially if there is chilli involved. Smells of nashi pears, red apples and honeysuckle florals drift out of the glass, whilst the palate is lighter-bodied and soft, with a kiss of sweetness upfront, then a flood of spicy pears, a slight creaminess to the mouthfeel, and a smooth, velvety, slightly sweet finish.

Winemaker's Notes

This wine displays fresh floral, nectarine and peach aromas. Honeysuckle and spice flavours are full on the off-dry palate with a textured and creamy finish.

Nick Stock (2011 Vintage) says
The Hunter's pinot gris has a wealth of fruit on the nose: a veritable fruit salad of pear, melon, tropicals and more. The palate's packed with sweet ripe fruits too - a really smooth off-dry style, finishing clean.

An excellent buy. The 2010 vintage is a distinctly Alsace style - sturdy (14.5 per cent alcohol) and gently sweet, with strong, ripe peach and spice flavours, a hint of apricots and a finely textured, rounded finish. The 2011 is mouth filling.'with vibrant peach and spice flavours, hints of ginger and apricot, slight sweetness (8 grams/litre of residual sugar), and excellent freshness, vigour and depth.
