Cracka Review

The Upper Hunter Valley is a good alternative to the hustle and bustle of Pokolbin and that’s where James Estate create their magical wines. Merlot might get a bad rap in this country but when we find one we like, then we are compelled to write about it. This has Hunter medium-bodied elegance through and through, supple, bright fruit with just a hint of oak before a soft mouthfeel and long finish. Pair it with lamb ribs for maximum enjoyment.

Winemaker's Notes

An elegant wine, exhibiting bright varietal flavours, a wonderful suppleness of palate and subtle use of oak. This Merlot was sourced from our Two Cedars block on southern boundary of our vineyard.

Appearance: Deep ruby red

Nose: Blackberries, plums and spice with hints of violets and dried herbs

Palate: Medium-bodied with ripe fruit flavours balanced by well integrated oak

Food pairing: Tapas, pizza, cold meat

Cellaring: Drinking beautifully now, but will age well over the medium term

Alc/vol: 13.0%
