Cracka Review

As we have said before, Adelaide Hills is turning out great Aussie savvy, and this one from Johnston Oakbank is a ripper! Smells of tropical passionfruits, grapefruit, dried herbs and grass adorn the nose, whilst the palate is lighter-bodied, fruity and crunchy, with juicy citrus flavours, frisky acidity, and a bright, lip-smacking finish that lingers.

Winemaker's Notes

The bouquet is herbaceous with passionfruit overtones. Flooding the senses, this powerful fruit flows onto the palate being rich, even and full.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Bright straw green; has tension rarely encountered in sauvignon blanc as grass, citrus and passionfruit - with a strong undertow of crisp acidity - engage in a tug - of - war for flavour dominance, none winning. Top class value and quality. 12% alc

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
A clean, bone-dry sauvignon blanc with a mix of mineral, grass and gooseberry fruit on bouquet and palate alike; needs a little more zest.
Australian Wine Companion 2012 2011
James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Well made and balanced, but curiously lacking flavour intensity given the age of the vines; there are notes of gooseberry, and the minerally finish is long.
Australian Wine Companion 2011 2010
WINESTATE (2008 Vintage) says
Soft and savoury on the nose, and good complexity developing on the palate. A wine with balance and style.
Winestate 20082009
James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
A gentle gooseberry/tropical fruit mix on an even palate with good mouthfeel, albeit with the diminished fruit intensity of the vintage.
Australian Wine Companion 2009 2008
James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Power and presence on both bouquet and palate; an attractive combination of herb, gooseberry and tropical fruit, the latter persisting on the long finish.
Australian Wine Companion 2008 2007
James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Well-constructed and balanced; plenty of mid-palate fruit without heaviness; grass, herb through to tropical; finishes with bright acidity. Good length.
Australian Wine Companion 2007 2006
James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Spotlessly clean; tropical passionfruit aromas; lively palate, finishing with minerally, squeaky acidity.
Australian Wine Companion 2006 2005
James Halliday (2003 Vintage) says
An aromatic mix of herb, asparagus and gooseberry; stylish, tight palate; excellent lemony acidity.
