Josef Chromy Pinot Gris

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Abundance. That's the word to use with a wine like this, a Pinot Gris with richness and texture built by picking the grapes ripe and then leaving a little grape sugar for balance. If you're looking for a wine of texture look no further.

Winemaker's Notes

Our Pinot Gris is harvested quite ripe in order to gain rich flavours and texture. The bunches are gently destemmed without crushing and the juice pressed directly to stainless steel tanks. The fermentation is carried out with a relatively neutral yeast to showcase the varietal characters.

Colour: Pale straw with golden hues.
Aroma: Ripe juicy pear and white peach fruit aromas, overlay hints of cinnamon, fennel and honey-blossom.
Palate: Full textured and robust, the fruit flavours are dominated by juicy pear and fig, with subtle traces of citrus tart and fresh cut apple. The classic Tasmanian cool-climate acidity balances the wine, and gives focus and length to the generous fruit flavours.

Nick Stock (2011 Vintage) says
There s a whiff of honeysuckle, plenty of pear, hints of spice and a gently creamy lees-derived edge to this wine. The palate has smooth flowing texture and flavours follow aromas with pear, spice and gently nutty notes to close. Neat wine.

Nice nose - smells of Turkish delight and apricots. Oily palate, in the gris style, with high alcohol and ripe fruit flavours.
