Joseph Drouhin Chambolle Musigny Premier Cru Pinot Noir

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

We step up a notch here to a Premier Cru pinot noir out of the village of Chambolle-Musigny. Sultry scents of red berries, violets, dark cherries and baked spices rise from the glass, whilst the palate is medium-bodied, dry and delicious, with fresh, juicy fruit flavours, fine sandy tannins, bright acidity, licks of mocha, and a velvety finish. Nothing but duck!

Winemaker's Notes

Tasting note by Véronique Boss-Drouhin

"Fine lace and silk are the words most often associated with this wine. Bright, intense colour and complex aromas evoking violet, black cherry and damp earth. According to the vintages, there are also notes of truffle and game. Refined tannins coat the palate. Good balance between texture and acidity. Long aftertaste, with notes of cherry and candied fruit".

The wines are very generous with ample character. The tannic structure is quite strong but ripe. The acidity level is fairly low. To be drunk or to be kept, the choice will be difficult as they are already full of charm, but also well-balanced, which is a sign of a good ageing potential. 2009 is showing its breed and will rightfully take its place among those vintages ending in "9" in the last century, as well as 2005, 1978, 1961...

Cellaring: 8 to 25 years.
