Kaesler Alte Reben Shiraz

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
The shiraz is grown on the 113-year-old estate vineyard. The colour is spectacular, as the profound depths of the blackberry, liqueur-soaked plum, licorice, bitter chocolate and spice fruit, oak a further adornment.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
The wine, in its massive eco-unfriendly bottle, comes from the estate 1899 plantings, matured in French oak for 15 months. Has purple-crimson colour, and the underlying fruit shows its distinguished parentage; after several tastings, I decided to accept the alcohol in the overall context of an undoubtedly complex wine.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
While Kaesler regards vines over 40 years as old, this wine comes from an estate vineyard at Marananga planted in 1899; striking crimson-purple colour, and has gorgeously pure blackberry and plum fruit, oak (French) and tannins perfectly balanced. Not fined or filtered. The one drawback is the choice of cork for a wine that would live for 50 years under screwcap.

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Incredibly deep colour; plenty of oak, with exceptional fruit concentration; layers of flavour, with lots of everything: tannins, fruit, oak and more. A monster! Shiraz.
