Kaituna Valley Canterbury The Kaituna Vineyard Pinot Noir

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2007 Vintage) says
This arresting Canterbury red flows from a warm and sheltered site on Banks Peninsula, south of Christchurch. Of the total area of Pinot Noir vines, a third was planted between 1977 and 1979; the rest was established in 1997. The wine is matured for over a year in Burgundy oak casks (50 to 70 per cent new). The 2007 vintage is classy. Deeply coloured, with a ripely scented, slightly peppery bouquet, it has sweet-fruit delights and striking depth of cherry, plum, spice and nut flavours, rich and supple.

Brightly coloured, the 2006 vintage shows some concentration and complexity, but is less fragrant and well-rounded than a top vintage.
