KarriBindi Margaret River Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

They're unique beasts these southern Margaret River Shiraz - spicy, peppery, and meaty numbers built savoury, dry and quite firm. This wine is a particularly elegant number, all black fruit and some bacony savouriness. Best drunk with a massive spag bol (bigger the better).

Winemaker's Notes

Our Shiraz grapes are from mature vines growing on a north facing slope of karri loam and gravel soils. The wine was carefully aged in a mixture of new and old French barrels to enhance the fruit flavours but not overpower them.

The deep red colour precedes aromas of cedar, all spice, black pepper, and mocha notes. The palate is focussed, with fine grained velvety tannins, showcasing maraschino cherry and succulent blackberry flavours.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Good colour; a complex bouquet with multi-spice, licorice and pepper accompanying the black fruits; the medium-bodied palate provides an attractive replay of the bouquet.

Ray Jordan (2008 Vintage) says
Quite ripe juicy Shiraz showing some extra weight in the middle palate after a bouquet of really ripe stewed plums and light cedar. It's succulent and densely packed with fruit and delivers with a rich intensity to a long finish.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Light but bright colour; a fragrant, spicy bouquet, the fresh light- to medium-bodied palate with lively red fruits and spice. Delicious drink-now style.

Ray Jordan (2007 Vintage) says
Slightly more weight and depth than the previous vintage but still built along similar lines. Spicy savoury aromas with red berry and raspberry characters. The medium bodied palate has good focus and length as it strikes a good integrated balance. Medium term wine.

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Spicy pepper and light red berry fruit; elegant on the palate, with a distinct savoury edge and prominent refreshing acidity; somewhat European in style.

Ray Jordan (2006 Vintage) says
A medium- to light-bodied shiraz liberally sprinkled with white pepper and a little touch of lavender. Fine tannins and lean fruit come together in this angular southern shiraz.
