Katnook Estate Amara Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Cracka Review

Single vineyard, single block and singularly awesome! This ultra rare Cabernet is one of a kind and built to last. Super rich and decadent, its a viscous and long wine of length and breadth. Awesome stuff.

Winemaker's Notes

The Amara Vineyard 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is a small batch wine, harvested from forty year old vines of the ‘Coonawarra Selection’ clone. These vines are planted on high quality shallow terra rossa soil, ideal for producing premium Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon.

Appearance: Dark cherry red.

Nose: The wine displays aromas of concentrated cassis and blackberry fruits with hints of savoury rhubarb and spicy plum.

Palate: Rich layered palate showing dark berry fruits, mulberries and hints of rhubarb. Flavours of dark chocolate and earthy plum enhance the rich soft tannins and dusty oak.

Food: The rich Amara Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is exquisite with slow cooked beef and mushroom ragout, served on baked polenta gnocchi with a side of winter vegetables. A great accompaniment to all red meat dishes served with a rich and luscious sauce.

Cellaring: We suggest cellaring for up to 18 years.

Alcohol: 14%

Katnook Estate Amara Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Bottle no. 3516 of 4600. Estate-grown vines, over 40 years old, provided the grapes for this wine; matured for 18 months in predominantly new French barriques. As is the case with all of the top-end Katnook red wines, new oak plays a prominent role, but here it meets its match with the blackcurrant and mulberry fruit that is in turn given support by firm cabernet tannins. The net result is a wine of excellent length and varietal purity.
