Katnook Estate Founder's Block Sauvignon Blanc

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

The Sauvignon Blanc juggernaut continues to make a dent in wine consumption across Australia and here’s an example from Coonawarra that is styled for everyday quaffing so this should never be out of the fridge. Herbaceous with tropical notes as well as citrus and floral undertones, there’s a lot going on here. A weighty palate of gooseberry and citrus ensues, showing fruit intensity and a lingering finish. No need to complicate things just add oysters for desired effect.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Clear pale straw.

Nose: Appealing and fresh tropical tones with light varietal herbaceous notes, hints of lemon grass, citrus and light florals.

Palate: A fresh and uplifting palate with citrus flavours, light gooseberry and subtle herbaceous notes. Displaying attractive fruit, the palate is soft yet refreshing with a zesty and lingering finish.

Food: Ideal as an aperitif or serve with fresh prawns with a light dressing or natural oysters. Also pair with rocket & goats cheese salad with Mango pepitas or Vietnamese pork stir-fry.

A zesty style, with tropical fruit, and a touch of fresh cut grass; the palate is fresh and lively, finishing dry with lemony acidity.

Richer fume style of sauv blanc with gooseberry fruit on a charry oak background. Good acid line. Nice finish.

Has riper, more tropical flavours than the Estate version, although the herb and gooseberry characters do not disappear.

Ray Jordan (2008 Vintage) says
A smoky and slightly herbal sav. blanc showing some excellent fruit flavours. The acid is crisp and fine and the palate sustained and loaded with light tropical flavours spiced up with a nice herbal touch.

Nick Stock (2007 Vintage) says
A straight shooting passionfruit sauvignon blanc style, showing plenty of crisp guava and more restrained citrusy fruits. The palate has lemony verve, really direct, some white musky nuances through the finish, green mango to close.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Has some varietal frangrance and fruit a mix of gentle tropical flavours and well-balanced acidity; better than many '07s.
