The highly distinguished 2000 vintage was estate-grown at Mangatahi - a relatively cool area inland from Hastings in Hawke's Bay - and fermented and tees-aged for a year (with fortnightly lees-stirring) in French oak barriques (50 per cent new). Soft and creamy, it's a powerful, very weighty, concentrated and complex wine with layers of peachy, mealy, nutty flavours and loads of personality. You could cellar it, but why bother? It's already an exciting mouthful.
