Kilikanoon Baudinet Blend Grenache Shiraz Mataro

Cracka Review

The Baudinet Blend is a new wine for Kilikanoon and one that pays homage to our affection for Rhône-styled blends, and for that matter, France itself.

Nothing goes so well together as just the right combination of Old Vine Grenache, an elevated parcel of spicy Shiraz and the muscular flavours and persistence of Mataro. Aged carefully for 20 months in well seasoned French oak and then bottled, both unfined and unfiltered, has deftly allowed this new blend of ours to take shape. Fortunately for us, the 2012 vintage was an excellent one, providing warm and mainly dry ripening conditions, well balanced by classically cool Clare evenings to maximise fruit intensity and personality.

Appearance: Brick red in colour with youthful crimson hues.

Nose: Lifted aromas of cherries and perfume infiltrate the nose, further enhanced by spicy plums, cured meats and soft French oak char.

Palate: The perfect combination of the three most noble Rhône varietals come together in a seamless and enticing blend. Medium bodied, yet complex and persistent in the mouth, the spicy plum fruits, perfumed cherry and chocolate notes and nuances of charcuterie and tar effortlessly combine in one compelling statement.

Cellaring: Potential of at least 12 -15 years with careful cellaring.

Alcohol: 14.5%
